“He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me?” (John 21:16). The Lord now drops the comparative “more than these” and confines Himself to love itself. This question is one which He is still asking of each of those who profess to believe in Him. “ ‘Lovest thou me?’ is, in reality, a very searching question.
